CONFERENCES: David Lee of UCLA presented a paper, “Oskar Pfister’s (1873-1956) Transatlantic Psychoanalytic Connection,” at the 29th Annual Conference of the International Society for the History of the Behavioral and Social Sciences held in June at the University of Richmond in Virginia. He also presented on Pfister in August in Budapest. The Association for the Psychoanalysis of Culture and Society is holding a conference on Aggressivity and Violence in Washington, DC, on November 6-8. (See the notice of the APCS’s journal at the bottom of this page.) On December 14 (Sunday) the Training Institute for Mental Health is sponsoring at Mount Sinai Hospital the Milton Kestenberg Holocaust Memorial Conference on “Reparations and the Holocaust: Political, Monetary and Psychological Dynamics.” It is in the Stern Auditorium and the entrance fee is $25.

CONDOLENCES: To David Beisel on the death of his mother.

BIRTHS: Congratulations to Mustafa Ziyalan and his wife, also a psychiatrist, on the recent birth of their daughter, Elvan Su. Dr. Ziyalan is an attending psychiatrist at the outpatient clinic of the Department of Psychiatry of the Staten Island University as well as on the faculty of New York University.

TRAVEL: Eva Fogelman, John Hartman, and Peter Loewenberg were some of the members of the Forum community who attended the International Society for Political Psychology (ISPP) July conference in Poland. Recently Mel and Alma Kalfus took a Caribbean cruise. This summer, Ted Cox spent two weeks in Paris and four in Ireland.

NEW PUBLICATIONS: Immigrant Experiences, the Psychohistory Forum-sponsored book, was published in August (see notice, this page). Rudolph Binion’s newest book, Sounding the Classics: From Sophocles to Thomas Mann also appeared in August (hardback by Greenwood, paperback by Praeger). Nellie Thompson will be the North American Editor of the new publication, Psychoanalysis and History, published in London. Jerrold Atlas has announced the forthcoming publication of the Psychohistorical Quarterly. WELCOME to new members Garth W. Amundson, Eva Fogelman, and John J. Hartman.

An International Journal of Political Psychology

Psicología Política is a new, semi-annual journal dedicated to the psychological analysis of political phenomena with special attention to the problems of political culture, collective action, and the environment. Major objectives of the journal are to disseminate knowledge about political psychology and to facilitate scientific exchange among scientists in related disciplines. Above all, the journal presents a forum for theoretical debate among scientists from a variety of disciplines and from different geographic regions who are interested in furthering an understanding of the relationship between psychology and political phenomena. Psicología Política uses a flexible format to present social scientific scholarship in a variety of forms. As an outlet for political psychology from different countries, Psicología Política is published in Spanish with English abstracts. Manuscripts are invited; send inquiries or manuscripts to an editor. Manuscripts are accepted in Spanish, English, Italian, French, or German. Advisory Board members are M. Garrido – University of C.
