Paul F. Jankowski, DPhil, Ray Ginger Professor of History at Brandeis University, was educated at Balliol College, Oxford and is the author of a forthcoming study of the battle of Verdun of 1916. His other published works include Communism and Collaboration: Simon Sabiani and Politics in Marseille, 1919-1944 (1989); Cette vilaine affaire Stavisky, Histoire d’un scandale politique (2000); Stavisky.
