R. D. Hinshelwood, MB, BS, is a Fellow of the British Psychoanalytical Society, a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and a Professor Emeritus of the University of Essex, UK. He has written widely on psychoanalysis, comparative methods between schools, and the relevance of the psychoanalytic unconscious in social and political discourses, including racism. His A Dictionary of Kleinian Thought (1989) is well-known and has been translated into nine other languages, and he will publish a volume entitled Unconscious Politics in 2024.
