The next SATURDAY WORK-IN-PROGRESS WORKSHOPS seminar is Charles Strozier (Center on Violence and Human Survival, CUNY Graduate Center, and private practice) on “Putting the Psychoanalyst on the Couch: A Biography of Heinz Kohut” on January 30, 1999.
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES: Andrew Rolle of the Huntington Library and Occidental College gave a November 2nd lecture on Freud’s Rat Man Case. Flora Hogman edited the August issue of the Psychoanalytic Review on resilience in the face of major trauma. She was also in charge of the portion on child converts to Christianity of a documentary film on hidden children of the Holocaust which will be released in France this winter.
NEW PUBLICATIONS: Paul Roazen’s psychobiography of William Lyon Mackenzie King, Canada’s King: An Essay in Political Psychology, has been published by Mosaic Press.
TRAVEL: In the early fall, Herbert Barry and Daniel Dervin each toured in China.
CORRECTIONS: We wish to apologize to Cushing Strout of Cornell University for inadvertently changing his meaning in changing a comma to a semi-colon in his review of Linda Simon’s book on William James in the September issue. Also, Strout is the author, rather than the editor, of The Veracious Imagination.
CONDOLENCES: To Eva Fogelman and family on the untimely death of her father, Simca Fogelman.

The Young Psychohistorian 1998/99 Membership Awards
John Fanton recently received his medical degree and is doing his five year residency in Providence, Rhode Island. Currently, he is at the Children’s Hospital, Women and Infants Hospital, and the Butler Psychiatric Hospital. His goal is to become a child maltreatment expert working in the area of Preventive Psychiatry. At the IPA in 1997 he won the Lorenz Award for his paper on improving parenting in Colorado.
Albert Schmidt is a doctoral candidate in modern European history at Brandeis University who plans to defend his dissertation in April when his advisor, Rudolph Binion, will return from Europe for the occasion. Rather than do a biography of SS General Reinhard Heydrich as originally intended, he is writing on the German protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia under Heydrich’s dominance. In the last four years this talented young scholar has been awarded nine fellowships, grants, or scholarships.
